Aquatic elves (also known as sea elves) patrol the dephs of the oceans and large inland waters, holding court beneath the waves. They can be found living in any part of Algoron. Aquatic elves have gill slits much like fish, through which they process oxygen. They are also equipped with lungs like the other land-bound races, this allows them to move around freely on both land and sea. Their skin is a blue-green color, matching the seaweed near their city. Aquatic elves' hair complements their skin and is also green or blue green. The overall effect is one that makes them very difficult to discern underwater, especially near kelp beds. Because of their coloring, they have the natural elven ability to camouflage themselves in their natural environment. Elves play an important part in the underwater ecology: They serve to keep the seas safe for inhabitants and sailors. As do the elves of the forests and the mountains, sea elves keep the devastation of such creatures as aboloths to a minimum. Because of the strange and terrible monsters that dwell in the deep sea, the aquatic elves and the dolphins have taken it upon themselves to keep it safe for those who travel across it. In many realms, no one would travel on the sea otherwise. A special affinity is shared with the dolphins, it has been said that upon entering the salty waters the sea elves can actually transform their bodies into that of a dolphin. This aids in the protection of the ocean, as unwanted trespassers can never be sure when they are being observed. Any race and alignment are welcome to visit the sea elven city Baaren Gaer. But be warned, as the city is located in the depths of the sea, they have been known to throw lawbreakers out of the gates to sink or swim on their own. Aquatic elf society consists of a titular king and queen to whom they pay homage. Baaren Gaer is currently ruled by the evil Vythalia and Krynthos. Sea elves generally live as they please, coming together under a ruler only in times of great need. |
